On September 20, 2019, the CPSO approved a suite of four policies and one Advice to the Profession companion document. The policies outline the mandatory regulations (the “musts”) and the companion document suggests optional best practices and advice. The policies are now in force.
Sets out expectations for availability, after hours coverage, and coverage during temporary absences from practice.
Sets out expectations for ordering and managing tests of all kinds.
NOTE: The Managing Tests policy replaces the 2011 Test
Results Management policy.
Sets out expectations for the transfer of patient care (or an element of patient care) between physicians or between physicians and other health-care providers.
Sets out expectations for physicians practicing in walk-in clinics, specifically related to continuity of care.
Provides additional advice and general information to support the understanding and implementation of the expectations outlined in the four Continuity of Care policies.

The OMA has developed a series of checklists to help you understand and implement the new Continuity of Care policies in your practice.
The checklists organize expectations from across all four policies into common themes so that you can easily apply them to your everyday tasks and practice contexts.
Each checklist lists key action items followed by the exact wording from the CPSO’s policies. They also include optional guidance from the CPSO’s Continuity of Care: Advice to the Profession document.
